Betulonic acid methyl ester CAS: 4356-31-4 is pentacyclic triterpenoid, a synthetic derivative of much more commonly found compound betulin. Methyl betulonate can be a useful starting material for synthesis of novel therapeutic agents for creating triterpenoid hybrids. Thanks to the cabonyl- group, it is easy to introduce new, interesting substituents at C(3) position for biological activity enhancements.
Carbonyl- group can be used for selective introduction of other heteroatoms, nucleophylic reactions or homologation reactions for expanding library of such compounds at C(3) position. And late stage hydrolysis of ethyl- group allows to obtain set of betulinic acid derivatives.
